COACHELLA TO BUILD A SIDEWALK AT RANCHO LAS FLORES PARK TO IMPROVE PUBLIC SAFETY ALONG VAN BUREN STREET

Post Date:05/21/2016 9:43 AM
COACHELLA, May 3, 2016 — Construction is expected to be underway by May 16 on a six-foot- wide sidewalk that will border Rancho Las Flores Park along Van Buren Street between Avenues 48 and 49.

“This project is needed to improve public safety along Van Buren Street,” said Jonathan Hoy, Coachella’s city engineer.

He added that the city received a $75,000 grant through the SB 82 Bicycle and Pedestrian Facilities Program, which will cover more than half of the cost of the project. Funds for the program are administered through the Riverside

County Transportation Commission. The Coachella City Council on April 27 approved a $139,000 bid for Watsonville, Calif.-based Granite Construction to build the sidewalk. The project is expected to be completed by mid June.
