2. What are the office hours of the Coachella Police Department?

The regular business hours of the Police Department (Indio Station) are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday, except on holidays. If you have an emergency, dial 911. For non-emergency calls, dial our dispatch at (760)836-3215.

3. How can I file a report?

You can file a report at the Indio station or you can call Dispatch and a Deputy will respond to your location. Some reports can also be filed online, click here to report a crime. Report a crime

4. How long before a police report is available and how do I obtain a copy?

It generally takes 10-15 days before a report is completed for distribution. This is due to the Internal report review, routine data input and filing processes. Please wait that time period before you call to obtain a copy of the report.

Parties entitled to reports must meet certain requirements.

• Proper Identification is required.
  
• You must be a party to the incident. The parent of an involved minor, attorney of record for the involved party, or the insurance agent of an involved party, to be eligible to receive a copy of the report.
  
• Suspect - reports can only be released (arrested or not) if the case has been adjudicated.

5. My vehicle was placed in storage- how do I obtain a release?

The registered owner is the only person who has access to the vehicle.

• A $100.00 VICR fee imposed by the City Of Coachella must be paid for release of vehicle unless the vehicle was impounded for 30 days, the waiting period must be honored.
  
• Once payment is received a receipt will be issued for release.
  
• Storage fees must be paid to towing agencies and registered owners must have a valid drivers license.

If your license is suspended, the registered owner must have two parties with valid drivers license. Vehicle registration must be current for release of vehicle from storage facilities, or you must obtain a 1-day DMV release.

6. How do I serve a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO)?

You should contact the Court Services Division of the Sheriff's Department in Indio at (760) 863-8255. They will explain all the details of the TRO process. If you have a proof of service on a TRO that needs to be filed with the Coachella Police Department, you may bring the documents in during regular business hours and contact the office staff for further directions. Restraining orders and order after hearings must be court stamped and filed by the court prior to receiving documents.

7. When can I get fingerprinted for job applications, permits, etc?

Fingerprinting is done on Wednesdays and Thursdays, between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm. Fees for fingerprinting are $10.00 per card. No appointment necessary. All fingerprinting will be done at the Indio Station.

8. How do I access the Megan's Law database to learn about registered sex offenders?

You may come to the Police Department and meet with an office staff member, preferably between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm. You will be assisted in reviewing the database, which is located in the Indio station.

9. How do I get a traffic citation signed off by an officer?

Citations are signed off at the Indio Station at 82-695 Dr. Carreon between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday thru Friday, no appointments necessary.

10. How do I obtain a records check/clearance letter?

Clearance letters can be obtained at the Indio Station during regular business hours.

1. What is West Nile virus?

West Nile virus (WNV) is a mosquito-borne disease that is common in Africa, West Asia and the Middle East.

3. When was West Nile virus first found in the United States?

WNV was first detected in the United States in New York in 1999. Since then, WNV has rapidly spread to 44 states, reaching as far west as Washington state.

4. Has West Nile virus been detected in California?

In 2002, in California, one locally acquired human WNV case was detected in Los Angeles County. Seven imported cases were also identified.

5. How many human cases of West Nile virus were found in 2002?

Last year, there were more than 4,000 human cases of WNV detected, including 277 deaths, in United States.

6. How does someone get West Nile virus?

People usually get West Nile virus from the bite of an infected mosquito. Also, there is evidence that WNV can be acquired via a blood transfusion or organ transplant from an infected donor.

7. What are the symptoms and treatment?

Most people who are bitten by a mosquito with WNV will not get sick. People who do become ill may experience mild flu-like symptoms like fever, headache and body ache. It is estimated that less than 1 percent of the people who are infected with WNV become severely ill and require hospitalization. The elderly are particularly susceptible to illness caused by WNV.
Currently, there is no specific treatment for WNV infection. Since it is a virus, it does not respond to antibiotics. In severe cases, hospitalization and supportive care is important.
If you have symptoms of West Nile virus, call your doctor.

8. How can people protect themselves?

Avoid activity outside when mosquitoes are most active, especially at dawn and dusk. When outdoors, wear long pants, long sleeve shirts and other protective clothing.
Apply insect repellant according to label instructions.
Make sure that doors and windows have tight fitting screens. Repair or replace screens that have tears or holes.
Eliminate all sources of standing water that can support mosquito breeding.

9. What is the state doing to control the spread of WNV?

California has a long history of conducting surveillance for mosquito-borne viruses and has taken active steps to ensure early detection of WNV. Due to ongoing collaboration between over 70 local mosquito and vector control agencies and state public agencies, California is well prepared to detect and monitor WNV. These agencies use a variety of scientific techniques and products to control mosquitoes in their earliest stages and play a key role in reducing the risk of WNV. Also, California has launched a statewide public education effort about personal protection measures and reporting dead birds.
